Why check your drivers?
Employers need to ensure drivers – professional or grey fleet – are correctly licensed and entitled.
Since the introduction of the Corporate Manslaughter Act in 2007, organisations that require employees to drive as part of their work must monitor their employees’ entitlement to drive and verify driving licences. Ignorance is no defence: under the legislation, benchmark fines for those found negligent in their ‘Duty of Care’ responsibilities start at £500,000 – with no upper limit.
- 22% of drivers have out of date licences according to the DVLA
- 95,000 UK drivers have 9 points or more on their driving license
- On average 250,000 drivers are disqualified every year
